It uses a two-way ratcheting mechanism that allows for simple tightening or loosening of the strap. The self-locking crank will ensure security while in use, and the two-way is the ratchet pawl up like this allows your handle to crank clockwise, which will bring the strap in.Then if you take this ratchet pawl and move it down then it will allow the handle to crank counterclockwise, so it will let the strap go out. Today, we'll be taking a look at the Dutton Lainson Covered Hand Winch. This helps you to get any kind of bulky items loaded up, if you need to pull them horizontally. So it's going to work well for loading up your boat onto your trailer and of course, maneuvering any kind of bulky equipment.It's designed to pull objects that are up to 1500 pounds or 1,500 pounds. We'll have our handle and a little lever here at the bottom so we can put this into freewheeling mode, like it is now, or flip that up and then have it in our ratchet mode.That handle has a nice ergonomic grip so you can get a good purchase on that. Even if you have a larger hand than mine, I think that you'd still be able to get a pretty good grip on there. It's attached to our winch by a locking nut. more

This cover is made of a durable plastic, and that is a three piece. The two screws at the back here, that if we we're to loosen those up, and we can take the two plates of the side and then take the top off there.That will be how you actually get this mounted up. You will need to remove that cover so you can get access to the mounting plate at the bottom.It comes with the 25 foot long polyester strap. Has that safety hook on there so we can clip that onto our boat or any other item that we're wanting to pull.Since this is a free wheeling winch, you don't want to use this for any kind of overhead lifting. more

Now this winch is going to be available in a few different sizes. Just see etrailer for your correct fitment. This is going to be a one speed winch, which means it's going to have one gear paired with the outside gear for the spool itself, so it's going to have one speed to bring the strap back into itself rather than those two speeds that may be a little bit more complicated to use. Although you might get a little bit faster pull out of them, they have more things on them to break.The body of the winch itself is going to have a heavy duty steel construction with a zinc finish, which is going to help resist against that rusting corrosion that this winch may be susceptible to because of the amount of water it's going to be exposed to.It's going to have a seven inch handle which is plenty of handle to give you enough leverage to tighten up your boat to where it's secure. more

Today, we're going to take a look at the Dutton-Lainson Sealing Winch with automatic brake. Now this, whenever it's mounted will actually be turned the other way, but just for demonstration purposes I'm going to have it facing this way for you, and basically this is going to allow you to operate two cables going in opposite directions at the same time, and then you'll have a little shepherd's hook to operate this. That is not included with this. You will have to have one separately. So, either pick one up or use an old one from a different kit, and basically a shepherd's hook just goes around there and hooks on to that and allows you to spin it. One direction will kind of free the spool.But then if we go the other direction, spin it a few times, it will start ratcheting. more
